Minutes of Semi-Annual Meeting held at the Seattle Yacht Club on June 15, 2003

 

 

The meeting was called to order at 1010 hours by Commodore Marda Phelps.

 

A Roll call was taken and the following Association’s representatives were present:

Jr. Commodore J.D. Smith, sent regrets in being unable to attend the meeting.

 

Secretary’s Report

Minutes were approved as submitted and an updated roster was circulated.

 

Financial Report:

A verbal report was given indicating a checking account balance of $6,580.00 and approximately $6,000 in the Castagana account.  A detailed report will be sent out with the minutes after income and expenditures of the Barusch/Castagana have been entered.

 

Rear Commodore’s Report

R/C, Paul Artof, requested a decision on the types of ties.  It was discussed and agreed to stay with the Burgundy ties at $6.75 with the embroidery done.  Motion By Bill Lewis and Seconded by Jerry Wellnitz to spend the money for the ties and unanimously approved.  Paul Artof distributed the letters for nominations of the Garret Horder Youth Award and also the notice of Annual meeting of the PCYA to be held Friday, January 16, 2004 at the Del Rey Yacht Club at 7:30 p.m.

 

The General Meeting will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2004 at which time the installation of the new officers will be concluded.

 

 

Vice Commodore’s Report

V/C Jerry Wellnitz announced that the Barusch/Castagna event will be held in San Diego next year (2004) and that 105 sail boats used in the running of the Carr Regatta.  V/C Wellnitz has sent out the notice to the Charles Langlais Award committee members Bill Bradshaw, Tom Collins, Thol Simanson, Thomas Allen Jr. and Walter Del Mar.  The winner of the previous year is to serve as Chairman of the Committee.  Vice Commodore has volunteered to assist, any way he can to coordinate the process and handle any detailed correspondence.

 

V/C Wellnitz has sent out letters of solicitations to all PCYA Members Associations, Commodores, Secretaries, Directors and Associations for nominations for award of the Charles A. Langlais Trophy.  A copy of the Deed of Gift for the trophy for guidance along with a list of previous winners.  Nominations are to be submitted by October 1, 2003.

 

Commodore’s Report

Commodore Marda Phelps expressed great satisfaction with the Weekend Barush and  Carr Regatta.  S/C Bill Lewis expressed a vote of gratitude and thanks on behalf of all to Marda for her hard work and choice of Chairman for the various committees which made for a very successful event.  S/C Lewis will take care of publicity for the event and will require names and scores of the winners.  He will also see that Results are posted on NACA web site.  Results of the weekend are posted in the Seattle Yachting Association Web site and R/C Artof will get the results on our Web Site.

 

Nominations

S/C  Bill Lewis announced he has a very good potential candidate for the position of Sec/Treasurer by the name of Linda Newman and will extend an invitation with the approval of this meeting.  The Motion by S/C Bill Lewis and Seconded by V/C Wellnitz was passed unanimously.

 

New Business

80th Edition of the PYAC Magazine S/C Joe Castagana has volunteered to call all Staff Commodores who have not contributed and to extend a $500.00 challenge to Staff Commodores to meet or beat this challenge.   Funds will  not to be deposited until the challenge has been met.

 

We have $1,800 collected and will require $3,500.00  Commodore Marda Phelps has agreed to spearhead doing the layout with R/C Paul Artof’s assistance.  S/C Bill Lewis will take care of the updates.  R/C Paul Artof believes our organization needs to do more for its members to justify its $170.00 dues.  Paul suggests a meting at Linda Newlan’s club as to how to provide more value.  The Bridge needs to support this initiative.  Commodore Marda Phelps requested the meeting  be held in Seattle.  It was moved by R/C Paul Artof and Seconded by S/C Joe Castagana a meeting take place October 11, 2003, placed to be determined at a later date.   Motion Carried.
