Secretary/Treasurer Jerry Wellnitz –
The 2001 roster is current based on information gathered during the 2001 fiscal
year.
Based on total normal income versus
expense, there was an approximate $200 negative cash flow last year. Commodore Lewis suggested that this was from
the aborted Carr regatta, with its expenses and no income.
S/T Wellnitz was concerned about the
high cost of stationary and postage, especially for the distribution of the
minutes. The Board spent time discussing
ways to reduce this expense, but determined to keep the distribution at 2
copies for each Organizations delegates’ and one for each Staff Commodore.
One way to deal with the high
expenses is to increase the dues from $170.00.
This was discussed, but there was no motion.
Several delegates to PCYA stated
that they did not get invitations to this meeting. S/T Wellnitz discussed the
difficulty he had in obtaining mailing information for some member
organizations. At that time, YRUSC
delegate
The Rear Commodore was concerned
that the correspondence was getting to its target delegates. R/C Phelps would like to have additional
sign-up sheets mailed with meeting announcements to help the meeting host(es) to organize the various activities.
Suggested including a self addressed
stamped envelope with current billing to help expedite return correspondence.
Discussed the difficulties in
conducting the Carr Regatta over the last two years and the process by which
Marda Phelps was asked to step in and take over the responsibilities of the
Rear Commodore and welcomed
V/C J. D. Smith announced that the
Langlias Trophy would be awarded to Tom Collins who is was
nominated by SCCA. All other candidates
will remain in the selection pool for next year’s nominations. Joe Castagana suggested making an additional
presentation of this award at the next running of the Barusch/Castagana Race
this coming June.
Commodore Lewis announced that
winner of the Garret Horder Youth Award was Coronado Yacht Clubs submitted by
SDCA.
Commodore Lewis presented the
opportunity to have our own website and not be part of the SCYA hosted
site. It would take an approximate $50
installation and $50 additional annual fee to make this possible. MOTION: by

Joe
Castagana announced that we give approximately $600 to an association to
conduct the Barusch/Castagana Race and thought that it would be nice if we once
again presented a plaque to the winning skipper of the event. It was determined that PCYA was currently in
a better financial position by offering the $600 to the host organization and
purchasing awards.
Commodore Lewis alerted the Board
that the next individual to join the Bridge should be a Powerboat owner from
the
U.S. Sailing National Offshore
Sailing Council representative Bruce Campbell solicited participation in the
forthcoming meetings in
Commodore Lewis discussed a letter
received from the Balboa Yacht Club. BYC states that they have a trophy issued
from PCYA called the Balboa Challenge Trophy.
This event takes place every year.
Commodore Lewis is looking for information about this event. It is a trophy issued in 1950 and no one at
this meeting was familiar with it.
Commodore will look into it.
Brochure – Commodore Bill Lewis
displayed a brochure created by S/C Marge Gandelman and suggested that it could
be reproduced and updated for the 80th anniversary. The new Bridge will look into this as they
represent the 79th year of this organization.
Archives – Staff Commodore Dave
McCullough has old PCYA records in his garage.
Commodore Bill Lewis will speak with a representative of SCYA to see if
there is a place to store them. He is
also looking into the possibility that they may be archived in bound books at
the
Staff Commodore Ben McKesson acted
in the capacity of the Installing Officer.
Current officers were praised of a job well done and dismissed after a
year of service.
New officers were installed and they
